From ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ to ‘Aladdin,’ here are 6 celebrities who’ve had trouble with their Teslas

Glenn Howerton is the latest star to go public with his frustrations after his Tesla got stuck in an LA parking garage for more than 24 hours.

Last month a Tesla owner told Insider he was locked out of his car after the battery died and was told it would cost more than $20,000 to fix.

In August, Vox reported that owners had filed numerous complaints against Tesla’s service centers. Last year, Insider reported that drivers posted their issues with their new Teslas on social media, including poor paint jobs and misaligned car panels.

In February, the electric car maker was being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after numerous reports citing a problem where Teslas randomly brake at highway speeds.

Several celebrities have also spoken about their Tesla troubles:

Glenn Howerton

‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Actor Glenn Howerton described in a podcast how his Tesla got stuck in a Los Angeles parking garage for more than 24 hours.

The actor said he was locked out of his car Tesla after his key fob broke. Howerton was also unable to get online in the basement garage to use the app for accessing the vehicle — a fail-safe against fob issues.

Jimmy Lin Chih-ying

Taiwanese singer and actor Jimmy Lin Chih-ying crashed his Tesla into a pole in Taoyuan, Taiwan, earlier this year. He said the car suddenly deviated from the road and injured him and his son.

The front of the car was completely ruined and badly burnt, footage of the accident showed. At the time, the police suspected the actor was at fault, Bloomberg reported.

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow tweeted in October 2019 asking for advice about what to do when a Tesla screen “goes black and the reset doesn’t work. Return it and get your money back??”

Several hours later she said the issue had been resolved, hinting that one of her kids had changed the settings. Crow said the best advice she was given was “suggesting my kids take a look … which would have been helpful since my kid was the one who changed the settings / caused it to go black in the first place! I knew I should have interrupted school…,” she tweeted.

Ben Baller

The celebrity jeweler Ben Baller got locked inside his Tesla in March 2019. The car doors wouldn’t open, and he had to exit through the trunk after waiting for Tesla service personnel for almost an hour.

Baller once made Tesla CEO Elon Musk a $37,000 ring to celebrate the company.

Mena Massoud

The day after buying an $85,000 Model 3, Mena Massoud crashed his Tesla into a tree in September 2018. According to Massoud, faulty suspension caused him to lose control of the vehicle, Forbes reported.

The “Aladdin” actor filed a lawsuit against Tesla saying the accident occurred because of defects in his car. He described the accident in the lawsuit, saying he felt a sudden “pop” as he moved into the right lane.

At that point, the car’s brakes engaged, “the steering wheel locked, the front-passenger wheel crumpled and ejected from the car, and the car itself skidded onto the sidewalk and crashed into a tree,” according to the lawsuit obtained by Forbes.

Michael Morris

Michael Morris is a British television director and producer. His wife, actress Mary McCormack, tweeted a video of her husband’s Tesla on fire.

She wrote in June 2018: “This is what happened to my husband and his car today. No accident, out of the blue, in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd. Thank you to the kind couple who flagged him down and told him to pull over. And thank god my three little girls weren’t in the car with him.”
